Background

Brent Cross opened in 1976 following the US shopping mall model in design terms. Revolutionary for the UK, it flourished and grew and following a major refurbishment and extension in 1996 has become the most well-established and well-known Centre in the country.

Some key facts about Brent Cross:

• 1st covered shopping centre in UK.
• Jointly owned by Hammerson UK Properties and Standard Life Investments.
• Situated in the London Borough of Barnet.
• A well-established retail offer with over 120 stores and restaurants.
• Approximately 16 million people visit the Centre per year.
• Approximately 50 million cars drive into Brent Cross each year.
• Expenditure across all main sectors within the catchment area is significantly higher than the national average currently just over £100 per visit. This is the highest in the UK.
• An excellent location. Brent Cross is situated close to several major trunk routes into and around London including the M1, A41, A406 North Circular Road and within easy reach of the M25 and A40/M40.
• Brent Cross is the only major London centre to provide 8,000 free parking spaces for its customers.
• The Centre has its own Bus Station which is the largest in the Borough and is within easy reach of two Tube stations and a mainline station.
• Every year over 50 million cars drive past Brent Cross - this equates to the whole UK population having visual contact with the Centre annually.
